Solar Light Sculpture – Glass, Light & Autonomy
This project is a collaboration with Van Dijken Glas and Dutch designer Golnar Roshan van Rive Roshan, combining traditional glass craftsmanship with modern, autonomous lighting technology.
The sculptural glass form is illuminated from within by a 12V LED light source, powered entirely by solar energy and integrated battery storage. No external power supply is required. During daylight hours, energy is harvested and stored; at dusk, the object activates automatically and emits a warm, atmospheric glow.
The glass diffuses light in multiple layers, creating depth, reflection, and a constantly changing visual experience depending on viewing angle, time of day, and surrounding environment. When placed near water, the reflection becomes part of the composition, doubling the visual impact without additional energy use.
Key characteristics
- Handcrafted glass by Van Dijken Glas
- 12V LED lighting system (LEDw@re)
- Solar-powered with integrated batteries
- Fully autonomous operation
- No external cabling or grid connection
- Suitable for outdoor installations, parks, gardens, and architectural landscapes
This project demonstrates how light, material, and sustainability can merge into a single object. Rooted in traditional glassmaking, executed with contemporary LED technology, and designed for long-term, low-maintenance use.
At LEDw@re, we believe lighting should not only illuminate—but operate intelligently, responsibly, and invisibly in the background.
